The Boston area showed a 1.9% increase in employment in the last year. That equals 47,300 jobs in 12 months.
The employment situation in the Boston area has been a solid increase for the last couple of years.
What does this mean for job seekers?
This is great news that should be tempered with a bit of a caution.
First the great news: There are a lot more jobs out there than there were a few years ago. Finding employment is easier and the pay is still decent.
The best ways to look for work are still the same as they ever were: check out employment agencies (we like ACE Employment in Boston! J ), check the paper and look on online job boards.
It is important that you have a great resume that shows your strengths. Make sure that you brush up on your interviewing skills. Also, don’t lose a lot of time messing around with jobs that are too good to be true and that might be fake. There are a lot of people out there who post jobs that are bogus. Be careful.
Now for the bad news: As the job market improves, lots of people that had left the job market are coming back in. Don’t freak out when you see that the unemployment rate went back up. It is likely that it will go up and down for a while.
This also means that the job market will get tighter in waves as more people start looking for jobs.
This is simple to counteract: You need to make sure that when you get an interview, you present yourself as the best candidate for the job. Show up early, be ready to work and know the answers to the questions they are likely to ask.
The job market may seem a bit uncertain for a while, but don’t let that scare you. It is getting better every day and there is a perfect job out there for you.
