The US economy is not perfect, but it’s time for all of us to stop playing the pity card about finding jobs. There have been some changes and certain things may never be the same, but understanding where the economy is at right now can make all the difference in your success.
The News: The UN just released a report that stated that the majority of the world’s citizens will be “middle class” by 2050.
The Plan: Look for jobs that cater to the growing world economy. If you live in the US or Europe, this might mean that things won’t be as great, because this will have a leveling effect on everyone. At the same time, this means that there will be trillions of dollars being spent in countries that don’t have any money now. Be there. This might mean learning some new languages or looking for business connections in foreign countries, but it can be done. If you are looking for a job, look for foreign companies that just arrived on US shores. They know their home economy is growing. Look for them to be willing to pay you for your knowledge of the US.
TN: The Dow Jones hit the highest level ever!
TP: There is no plan, unless you own stock in those few companies. It really doesn’t mean much… unless you somehow service the financial community. Stock brokers and others will be loaded, so if you can, look for positions with companies that serve these guys. Restaurants, computer companies, even auto repair will all be seeing a bump from these guys, and gals, having more money.
TN: Companies plan on building and expanding at a higher rate than anytime in the last 6 or 7 years.
TP: Again, you have two choices: If you are in the construction industry, great. Start looking for one of these companies to build for. If not, look at how you can become part of the support services for construction related industries. Watch for tool manufacturers to be hiring. Look for tax companies in these areas to see more business. Hotels in areas with significant construction will be busy. Look at how this might affect what you do.
TN: There is no end of the world economic crap in the offing.
TP: It might sound like some crazy new-age, “The Secret” type stuff, but how you approach your job search will generally yield the results you expect. If you leave the house convinced you won’t get work, it will likely happen. If you approach it with a positive attitude, your chances are greatly improved. This isn’t necessarily some esoteric concept. If you have a truly positive attitude, people can feel it and will feel like you have a positive attitude about life.
Summary: The economy is improving. Most of the people who say that it isn’t have a political or economic motivation for pointing out the bad stuff. Turn off the doomsayers, put a smile on your face and know that there is a job for you out there. (And if you can’t find it on your own, call us. We’re professional job finders!)
